I studied predator-prey interactions between bears and salmon in the Great Bear Rainforest. I examined how characteristics of spawning grounds could provide refuge for salmon and, therefore, influence the types of fish captured by bears, as well as the amount flesh consumed on each captured salmon. This research has implications on size-selective forces acting on salmon stocks and cross-boundary nutrient transfer; It also informs management decisions on stream restoration projects.
